Ian Morrison - Chop & Signature - inside front book cover.
|
My father Ian Morrison apparently always liked to sign his name in green ink & like his father - used a Chinese chop; my grandfather though had a bookplate made, while my father seems to have been content with the printing of the chop in red ochre ink.
This is inside the front cover of "Hassan" by James Elroy Flecker, 1924 ed, rebound by my mother in Singapore after World War II.
It is entirely possible that my father carried this actual copy in his pocket when he was up at Trinity College, Cambridge in the 1930s. He was of course a contemporary of Burgess & Maclean, at the same Cambridge college, but seems to have been unabashedly heterosexual.
The book would have been the equivalent of "On The Road" (Jack Kerouac) for that time:-
"The Story of Hassan of Bagdad and how he came to make the Golden Journey to Samarkand".
